“Learning is FUN-tastic!” Keeping this maxim in mind, the Postgraduate and research Department of Mathematics, V. O. Chidambaram College, organises a quiz in Mathematics for higher secondary students every year. Popularly known as “QMAT”, the quiz aims at encouraging young minds to be sharp by learning the nuances of Mathematics. The quiz would usually have a team of two higher secondary students from every school in Thoothukudi district. On top of this, the winning team would grab a rolling trophy sponsored by Canara Bank, Thoothukudi.

This year, the quiz “QMAT 2012” was conducted on 30 October, 2012 in the auditorium of our college. The programme started at 9 am with the inaugural address of Dr. R. The quiz had three rounds: preliminary, semi-final and final. There were eighteen teams from various higher secondary schools in Thoothukudi district. At the end of the preliminary round, twelve groups qualified themselves for the semi-final. There was a tough competition in the semi-final and six teams were selected to compete in the final round. At last, the team from Sri Kamatchi Vidhyala Matric Higher Secondary School grabbed the rolling trophy, by securing 140 points. Varun Ramanathan and Sakthi Priya were the team members.
